Romance movies with self-help advice? Yes, you got that right.
I had originally looked for regular romance movies on Google. Once I jotted down my preferences, and read the synopsis, I knew in the back of my mind they were going to have something else up their sleeve beside the sopy parts.
AFTER
A teen melodrama? A good girl gone bad type of scenario? Some may describe this movie as such. I tend to scratch beneath the surface to find the hidden gems.
- I think it’s more about finding oneself beyond the expectations of your parents. A journey of self-discovery, whether is personally or professional;
- Each person is the product of their past and present decisions;
- A messed-up life doesn’t mean the end of the story. Love can enhance one’s life past the ghosts that haunt them;
- Making mistakes is human. Seeking perfection is what sets you up for mistakes. But mistakes don’t represent your best self. So go through them and learn from them;
- People inevitably change. Try to understand the phases they’re going through instead of holding hard to what you pictured them to be for you.
FIVE FEET APART
Bring your napkins for this one! This has got to be one of the best romance movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s a teen drama, yes. But that warm fuzzy feeling you’ll get is worth the effort.
- Know the rules so you know how to break them legally;
- Don’t give up on someone because of temporary defeat;
- Physical distance doesn’t mean emotional distance;
- People are not their illnesses or flaws;
- Life is sometimes lived on a tight rope between hope and crushing defeats.
Not to mix genres here but I have another recommendation for you :). If fantasy movies are also your thing, do check this blog post.
All the best,
