2 fantasy movies from Russia and China that will blow your mind

I’ve begun to watch fantasy movies outside of Hollywood’s grip on my mind. For many years I’ve been a fan of American blockbusters. I still am. However, sometimes  the same plots, lack of creativity, and, most of all, lack of substance start to bore you.

Below you can find two great movies I’ve seen recently from the most unexpected places. Don’t look in the most obvious places for great fantasy movies. Stray off the beaten path a bit. 🙂

Coma (Koma): action, adventure, fantasy (2019)

It’s a Russian movie that will take you inside the deep crevasses of your mind. Set in a dystopian reality, the memories of the inhabitants (comatose patients) create everything. The laws of nature don’t seem to apply.

Some people call it the Russian Matrix. I wouldn’t go that far. These two movies have their own unique flare.

“Coma” is a must watch if you like a dystopian setup with psychological undertones, philosophical entanglements, and hidden personal development advice.

Ne Zha (Ne Zha zhi mo tong jiang shi): animation, action, adventure (2019)

A Chinese fantasy movie!? I had to try it. It bore some resemblance to Japanese animation, so I gave it a shot. It didn’t disappoint me.

Ne Zha tells the story of a boy born with paranormal powers that fights demons to save the community he lives in. You can find subliminal or straightforward personal development advice, such as believing in yourself and finding your path. It also tackles the subject of prejudice and the desire to be accepted by others.

If you’re interested in the fantasy genre and personal development, go ahead and watch them. I guarantee you’re not going to waste your time.
